New Hampshire has the highest median income in the nation, according to statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

According to the bureau, the median household income – calculated by averaging median incomes from 2008 and 2009  was $65,028 in New Hampshire, the highest of any state in the country.

The Granite State’s first-place ranking is followed closely by New Jersey, with a median income of $64,918, and Connecticut in third at $64,644.

Pulling up the rear is Mississippi, where the median household income is $35,693 – 45 percent less than New Hampshire.
