Don't miss the fun at Halloween in Amherst Village NH ...
Halloween has been a big deal in Amherst Village for some time. Kids and adults come from all over the area to go trick or treating in the village. It is a great time for all.
Some of the roads in Amherst are closed for the evening and the the Village is packed with goblins and ghouls, princesses and all kinds of fun costumes. This is serious business folks...You can tell many of the costumes are hand made and the attention to detail is clear.
When we lived in the Village, we lived on Sunset Road and abutted the cemetary (we had someone comment that it must be quiet there and I told him it was, but at this time of year, they got pretty rowdy in there) .
Sunset is a smaller dead end road that didn't get as much Halloween traffic as the homes around the Village Green did; we had to close our doors and turn out the lights when we were out of candy (we had planned for 100)...It is not unusual for the Amherst Village homes on the Green to have more than 200 kids..
Many of the homes that get this heavy traffic get support from local organizations (bags and bags of candy that is).
When my son was younger we would join in and take him around to each an every home and that is how I became such a fan of Halloween in Amherst Village.
Now that he is grown, I find myself going to the Village and taking the dog...it is so much fun to just walk around, smell the Fall air and fallen leaves and just check out the Amherst homes and how they are decorated and watch the small children delight in old fashioned trick or treating.
